When you first install and open the app, the first thing you will see is a disclaimer that you will need to read and agree to in order to proceed.
Next you will need to allow the app permission to your location in order to show your position on the map while the app is opened. When you close/minimize the app, your location will stopped being used.
Depending upon your device, you can select whether you want to give the app permission to access your location only once, or while using the app.
If you do not allow (or have previously denied) location permission to the app, you will have to manually go into your devices location/permission settings in order to set the location permission.
Basics
The main page of the app will show you a basic map view of your position on the map, and all available routes colored by their difficulty level.
You will also see towards the bottom of the screen, the 'Settings' button and Tab options to flip between map and list view.
The route list tab shows all available routes in alphabetical order. It also has the ability to search for routes at the top.
Settings
Tapping the settings button will open the settings slideout. This slideout gives you map and route filtering options as well as the ability to switch from imperial values to metric values. You can also access the Help and Advanced Settings from here.
Route Details
To view route details, simply tap on the route icon or on the route path itself. Then tap on the route name to view the routes details.
To continue to see additional route information, trailhead address, map overview, and to start the route press the 'View' button.
Below is shown the main actions that you can do for your selected route.
Starting A Route
The very first time you start a route, you will see the location permission window show up again. In order to track your activity and give you audible alerts, the app MUST have your background permission to 'Always'. Without this permission, as soon as you turn off your screen, or send the app to the background, your location tracking will stop, and the app will no longer be able to give you audible turn by turn directions.
We take your security and privacy very seriously, and your always background location is ONLY used while you are executing your activity. As soon as you tap 'Quit' or press the back arrow, your background location tracking ends (You can verify this by watching the little GPS icon on your device disappear). It should also be mentioned that we do not automatically collect your data EVER. The only exeption is if you find a bug in the app and you want to submit the log (saved on your device) from your activity to us for review. This is done from the main page under the 'More Settings' button.
Once you start your route, you will hear your device speak out loud to make sure your device audio level is loud enough for you to hear. After initializing, you will see the following view.
Example Of Sounds/Alerts
It all starts when you enter the start zone. You will hear an audible sound letting you know you have entered the start zone. Time, distance, speed, etc. calculations start working and the app is alive!
Just keep listening and following the audible directions and complete your activity! Once you cross into the finish zone you will hear an audible sound and all calculations stop.
If your devices satellite integrity drops to unuseable levels, you will hear an alert and voice giving you a heads up.
Finishing A Route
When you are done with your route, you just simply have to click the 'Quit' button, the back arrow button on your device, or by left swipping. Doing this will end your background location tracking. (Please note that if you force quit the app on Android the background tracking service will continue running for a period of time, so please make sure to end your route correctly.)
